Algerian businesspeople will visit the port of Castellón to revive trade relations

El Port of Castellon will host the visit of Algerian businessmen during the first half of January, marking a significant step towards the reactivation of the business relationships between both countries. This initiative arises as a direct result of a trade mission carried out by the Port Authority to Algeria, with the aim of recovering and strengthening ties after the lifting of the trade blockade.

President of PortCastello, Ruben Ibanez, has highlighted that this event “demonstrates the success of the recent expedition” to the African country. During this mission, significant agreements were closed that have aroused considerable interest among the Algerian business sector. According to Ibáñez, they not only want to resume operations with the Castellón port, but also explore opportunities to establish themselves there.

Ibáñez also said that "the commercial opening has made us intensify contacts with shipping companies to resume the lines that operated before the trade blockade”. In this sense, he stressed that his objective is to mobilize and reactivate a key market that previously represented more than one million tons per year in maritime traffic and had five regular lines connecting Castellón with algerian ports.

The trade mission to Algeria took place from 15 to 18 December and made PortCastelló the first Spanish port to organise such an initiative since the end of the blockade. This effort was received with great interest by nearly 60 Algerian companies and business associations belonging to sectors such as ceramics and meat.

During this mission, key representatives held strategic meetings with figures such as Fernando Moran Calvo-Sotelo, Spanish ambassador to Algeria; Luis Barranco Duke, commercial attaché; Diego Mellado, European ambassador; as well as representatives of the Algerian Ministry of Transport. These meetings sought to identify the needs of the Algerian market and open new avenues for fruitful bilateral collaboration.

This visit reinforces the mutual commitment to resume trade relations and consolidates PortCastelló as a vital strategic bridge for international trade between Spain and Algeria.
