Nine companies in the footwear sector Murcia have participated in the 99th edition of 'Expo Riva Schuh', one of the most prestigious fairs in the sector in the world, held in Riva del Garda (Italy). Murcian companies have the support of the sector association Calzia and the Development Institute (Info).
The Region of Murcia, with these nine brands, is one of the communities that contributes the most exhibitors to this renowned event, behind the Valencian Community. As it is one of the classic fairs in the sector, the format chosen on this occasion replaces the usual commercial mission with an important promotional reinforcement managed by Calzia.
This support has been organized around signage designed, both to give visibility to the Region's brands and to promote the qualities of the regional shoe industry, with special emphasis on the aspect of sustainability and environmental protection, both in the use of materials as in the manufacturing itself.
The high degree of internationalization of the sector is manifested in the fact that up to 108 regional companies carried out commercial transactions abroad, a figure that has remained relatively stable in recent years, despite the successive crises caused by the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This visual promotion will be complemented with various articles in the professional press of the sector and the presentation of the regional industry of the sector in a 'cocktail-networking' format in the Bussiness center of the fair for buyers and specialized press, with the presence of the brands and products of the Region (wines Bodegas del Rosario Bullas, appetizers and dried fruits Losan and Jamón Muñoz-Rojo), activities carried out by Calzia with the financial support of the INFO.
The regional footwear sector is made up of 177 companies. Of the total, 80 percent make shoes, sneakers, sneakers and sandals. The rest is dedicated to producing components, that is, leather, soles, uppers, insoles, heels, cork wedges, etc., and is characterized by being a traditional sector of the regional industry concentrated in Lorca, Alhama de Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz and Yecla, mostly. Regional companies in the sector represent four percent of national companies.
The Info, within the framework of the Business Internationalization Plan 2023-2027, financed by the European Regional Development Fund, which is executed jointly with the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca, carries out numerous actions to promote regional footwear, supporting Calzia, both in United States as in various destinations Middle East and, more recently, in Australia, with various exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney, among other markets.
Exports
Sectoral exports from the Region of Murcia to the entire world increased by 25 percent in the last year, reaching 106,8 million euros. The high degree of internationalization of the sector is manifested in the fact that up to 108 regional companies carried out commercial transactions abroad, a figure that has remained relatively stable in recent years, despite the successive crises caused by the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Until April 2023, regional footwear exports amount to 12,5 million euros, with a growth of 5,5 percent.
