A group of five agricultural technology companies from the Murcia participated last week, with the support of Development Institute (Info), in the XIII International Aneberries Congress, celebrated on Guadalajara Mexico). This is the most relevant specialized event for berry producers, where Murcian businessmen were able to consolidate their presence in a market as powerful in this sector as the Mexican one, which has grown exponentially with exports to the North American clientele.
For some of the companies in the Region specialized in irrigation technology, their participation had the objective of reaffirming their positioning in the market, where they have been working for more than a quarter of a century, and, for others, it was about exploring expectations and possibilities.
As explained by the director of the Info, Joaquín Gómez, “we have covered both the participation of very veteran and experienced companies in a extremely expansive market, as well as others with less experience.” Furthermore, the sector association Apoexpa showed the innovative and competitive technology for local farmers as an example of the Capabilities of regional knowledge.
In addition to the sector association, the firms attended Guadalajara. JHuete, Ritec, Polmpi, Odins and Keep Cool, who showed their satisfaction for having been able to participate in the event and expressed their desire to return to the contest next year.
The International Aneberries Congress is positioned as the main business fair specialized in the berry industry. Info managed the reservation of the exhibition space for companies in the Region, a stand of 18 square meters. The firms had an agenda, closed in advance, of professional contacts during the days of the congress. Likewise, he was in charge of logistics, accommodation and flights. Info financed this action with more than 40.000 euros, coming from the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF).
During the congress, the participating regional companies had the opportunity to learn about the latest sector trends that were offered in presentations such as 'Berries and safety, present and future seen from the perspective of the FDA (Food Drug and Administration)'; 'How to generate value in berries through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?', as well as 'Opportunities in global trade for the berry industry; beyond the North American market'.
The firms from the Region completed their participation with a visit to one of the largest avocado packing plants in the country and different fields of cultivation, in order to appreciate the technology and systems used by Mexican farmers.
This action is part of the annual programming of the Business Internationalization Plan 2023-2027 that the Development Institute executes together with the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca, among whose objectives is to diversify the number of companies that carry out commercial operations abroad, especially in those productive sectors where the Region is more competitive, such as agricultural technology and related products.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the acting Minister of Business, Social Economy and the Self-Employed, Valle Miguélez, signed an agreement last year with the Mexican state of Jalisco to promote the exchange of experiences in areas such as technology applied to agricultural production; the promotion of joint projects between the universities of both regions aimed at the training and exchange of students, teachers and graduates, both in agronomic and energy matters; the launch of joint projects with research organizations from both regions; and the exchange of qualified information on internationalization, which is decisive both for companies in the design of their international strategies, and for regulatory agencies. support for internationalization.
