Portuguese technology companies aiming to conquer the Spanish market

With the participation of twenty companies from the new technologies sector, Portugal will be present, as a guest country, at the next edition of the International Fair The Information Technology, Multimedia and Communications Trade Fair (SIMO), which will be held in Madrid from November 6 to 9, aims to help participating companies gain entry into the Spanish market through collaboration with local partners.

According to the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency in Spain (AICEP), Portuguese technology companies are currently thriving, having achieved significant international recognition. These include companies that supply solutions to major corporations and organizations such as NASA, Cisco, Nokia, Microsoft, ESA, and Intel, as well as to Japanese banks, railway networks, and airlines in Europe and the United States.

Estimates made by the consulting firm IDC indicate that the Portuguese market is expected to have an average annual growth of 7,5% until 2010 in the Information Technology sector, a figure higher than the European average of 5,4%.

The Portuguese information technology market recorded revenues of nearly €2.800 billion last year, representing a 7% increase over the previous year. Growth of 8,1% is projected for this year. For reference, in 2006 Portugal accounted for 1% of the total Western European market. Based on current forecasts, Portugal is one of the European countries with the greatest short- and medium-term growth potential in this sector.

To prevent the terrible forest fires that occur, especially in the summer, NGNS has created the Forest Fire Finder, an innovative, highly secure forest fire detection and location system that operates automatically and autonomously, requiring no human oversight.

Another company exhibiting at this show is wTVision, dedicated to the development of innovative software systems for the production and automation of infographics for television, production and automation of broadcasting processes, and interactive solutions.

Portuguese technology companies are seeking international growth, particularly in Spain, through collaborative agreements with local businesses.
