Ercros leads industrial decarbonisation in Tarragona with an investment of 14,6 million euros

 

The chemical company Ercros has received a major boost for its industrial decarbonisation project at its production centre Vila Seca, TarragonaThe Ministry of Industry and Tourism has granted the company aid of 14,6 million euros within the framework of the PERTE of Industrial Decarbonization.

 

The announcement was made by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi HereuDuring his visit to Ercros' facilities, Hereu highlighted the company's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and improving its energy efficiency. "Ercros is an example of how industry can move towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible model," the minister stated.

 

The €14,6 million grant is in addition to a previous €534.000 grant, bringing the total investment in Ercros' decarbonisation project to over €15 million. Thanks to this investment, the company plans to reduce emissions from its industrial complex in Tarragona by 56%, which means savings of over 40.000 tonnes of CO2.

 

Catalan companies have so far been awarded a total of 51,6 million euros from the Decarbonisation PERTE

 

Minister Hereu stressed the Government's commitment to the decarbonization of Spanish industry“This year we will allocate 600 million euros to offset the CO2 emissions of energy-intensive industries,” he announced. He also noted that Catalan companies have received a total of 51,6 million euros from the PERTE Industrial Decarbonization program.

 

The Tarragona petrochemical hub is the most important in southern Europe and a fundamental pillar of the Spanish industry. It represents 25% of Spain's chemical production and 50% of that of Catalonia, generating 5.800 direct jobs and thousands of indirect and induced jobs.

 

Ercros' investment in decarbonisation will not only benefit the environment, but will also contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the company and the petrochemical sector as a whole.
