During his recent visit to China, Pedro Sanchez has stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Spain and the Asian giant. The Prime Minister stressed that, despite differences in some aspects, "the commonalities are more important," making an appeal to the cooperation between Europe and China, key regions on the world stage. In his meetings with the president Xi JinpingBoth leaders agreed to maintain regular dialogue at the highest level, consolidating a relationship that, according to Sánchez, "has been built on solid foundations."
Sánchez also reiterated Spain's commitment to "building bridges and constructing a solid and cooperative relationship" and advocated for a Greater trade openness between Europe and China.
Sanchez stressed the need for trade relations to develop on equal terms and within the framework of the WTO, rejecting any form of economic conflict.
One of the highlights of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company Envision, which will invest $1 billion in an electrolyser production plant in Spain to boost the development of green hydrogen. This agreement is part of eight pacts reached during the trip, covering key areas such as trade, investment, culture, education and green development.
Sánchez also emphasized the "enormous growth potential" in the economic relationship between the two countries, especially in green and innovative industries, but stressed the need to rebalance these relations to achieve greater equity.
The trip concluded with a visit to the Spanish technological business cluster of Kunshan, in the province of Suzhou, where Sánchez met with representatives of companies such as Mondragón Internacional, Fagor Arrasate and Gestamp"I have seen firsthand the excellent work our companies are doing in a market as complex as China," the president said, showing the government's support for his presence in the country.
