Spain secures €42 million in European funds for a sustainable transport network

 

These funds, validated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, will be allocated to initiatives that promote a resilient transportation system adapted to current challenges.

 

Of the eleven selected projects, five will be carried out entirely in Spain by public and private companies, while the remaining six are community initiatives with Spanish participation. Funding will be distributed across two main areas: safe and secure mobility, and smart and interoperable mobility.

 

In the line of safe and secure mobility, five projects will receive approximately 20,5 million euros. Of these, 16,6 million euros will be allocated to the creation of Safe and Secure Parking Zones (SSP) en Gipuzkoa, Huesca and Zaragoza, improving security for carriers and goods.

 

The remaining 3,9 million euros will be focused on the road resilience to climate changeThese projects seek to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, by ensuring the continuity of road infrastructure and the safety of road users.

 

The remaining six projects, totaling around 21,6 million euros, are aimed at the smart and interoperable mobilityFour of these initiatives, valued at €13,9 million, will focus on the development and implementation of smart applications for transportation.

Funded actions include:

• Involvement ENAIRE and other Spanish organizations in two European proposals for the development of air traffic management Single European Sky (SESAR).

• The development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the strategic ones Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors.

• The implementation of a system to eliminate barriers to data interoperability in intermodal rail transport, facilitating the flow of information and increasing efficiency.

• The development of a digital navigation system that will optimize transportation efficiency and safety.

• The improvement and implementation of National Access Points, optimizing the capture and feeding of traffic and mobility data.

 

The Connecting Europe Facility: A Boost for European Connectivity

 

Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) grants are awarded through a rigorous competitive bidding process, ensuring that the selected projects are those with the greatest impact and viability. Beneficiaries of these funds can be institutions or companies from any European Union country, applying individually or in consortiums, as well as international organizations linked to the infrastructure and transport sectors. This initiative underscores the EU's commitment to improving connectivity and sustainability across the continent.
