The project "Rail Folding«, created by students Marcos Muñoz Marqués, Mónica Lara Paredes, Nicolás Vázquez García and David Silva Mulas of the University of Valladolid, has been awarded the bronze medal in the category of Specialized packagingThis innovative modular and removable wooden packaging system facilitates assembly and folding without the need for auxiliary elements, promoting sustainability and the circular economy in the logistics packaging sector.
In this edition of the WorldStar Student Awards, organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), 237 entries from 23 countries were submitted. The jury awarded a total of 28 medals in various categories, as well as special prizes in Marketing, Sustainability and Fight against food waste.
Spain not only stood out with the bronze, but also obtained 17 certificates of recognition, placing it in fourth place in the global ranking of distinctions. These certificates were awarded to projects by students from various Spanish universities, such as the University of Deusto, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Zaragoza, the Jaume I University of Castellón, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Cádiz, the School of Art and Higher Design of Alicante, Elisava and the School of Art and Higher Design of the Balearic Islands.
The country with the most awards in this edition was South Africa, followed by China, Australia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The three most notable projects at a global level were:
- Gold medal: Lipstick «Lèvres – Find your shade» by Elvira Alm Andersson and Barbara Lübek-Kacperczyk (Nackademin Institute of Sweden).
- Silver medal: Banana transport box by Loisa Joubert (IPSA Education, South Africa).
- Bronze medal: Fresh Herbs – Fresh Packaging by Cameron Campbell, Nadia De Fazio and Cyntia Mullaly (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia).
The WorldStar Student Awards 2025 ceremony will take place in the first quarter of this year.
