Spain strengthens its cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean through an agreement with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration

Spain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) with the aim of promoting the financing of projects that promote sustainable economic development in Latin America and the CaribbeanThe agreement, signed by the Secretary of State for Trade, Amparo López Senovilla, and the executive president of CABEI, Gisela Sanchez, establishes a framework for collaboration that will benefit both the region and the internationalization of Spanish companies.

The Memorandum of Understanding will allow financing of projects through the Fund for the Internationalization of Companies (FIEM), highlighting two main areas: non-refundable financing for studies contracted with the CABEI, carried out by Spanish companies, and repayable financing for projects awarded to these companies, provided that Spanish content is maximized. This agreement also responds to the European strategy «global gateway«, which seeks to mobilize up to 300.000 billion euros by 2027 to promote projects in key sectors such as digital, climate, energy, transport, health and education.

This new step is part of the Investment Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean, approved at the recent EU-CELAC Summit.

López Senovilla stressed that "this agreement reinforces Spain's commitment to the internationalization of your companies and with sustainable development in Latin America.” For her part, Gisela Sánchez highlighted the importance of this alliance, stating that “CABEI will continue to support initiatives that promote economic integration and the social development of the region."

This new step is part of the Investment Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean, approved at the recent EU-CELAC Summit, and aims to strengthen economic cooperation between Spain and the region, promoting projects that benefit both parties.
