This new body is one of the hundred key measures of the ambitious "Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028: Working together through a strategic relationship".
The Advisory Council was created with the fundamental purpose of creating a space for reflection and contributing practical ideas that advance the bilateral and multilateral relationship between Spain and Africa. As Minister Albares explained during the founding session, the body will focus on addressing common challenges and will serve as a crucial tool for the effective implementation of the Strategy.
With a truly collaborative approach, The Advisory Council will be composed of 54 membersOf these, 34 will be prominent African figures from all regions of the continent, and the remaining 20 will be Spanish members. This panel of experts will include figures from academia, business, institutions, and civil society, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse perspective.
The Advisory Council is expected to meet annually in person, alternating between an African country and Spain, underscoring the commitment to reciprocity and closeness. Following its initial launch, four working sessions will be held focusing on key areas: economic diplomacy, public diplomacy, security, and governance, laying the groundwork for future collaborations and joint projects.
