The foreign trade bulletin of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which analyses the period from October 2024 to May 2025 (2024/25 Campaign), confirms this positive trend.
Key figures of the period
Cumulative olive oil exports reached 633.786 tons, representing a 24% increase compared to the previous season. This increase occurs despite a decrease in the unit export value, which is below the previous season's figures.
Growing exports: The export volume exceeded both the 2023/24 campaign (up 24%) and the average of the last four campaigns (up 1%). The cumulative value of exports stood at €3.387 billion, 18% less than the previous campaign, but 21% more than the average of the last four campaigns.
Main destinations: Italy It is the main destination for exports, with a notable increase of 58% due to its low production. Other markets that registered significant growth include Portugal (+ 17%), United States (+14%), and countries of Asia and Oceania like China (+ 73%), South Korea (+123%) and Australia (+49%). In contrast, declines were observed in the volume exported to Russia (-14%), Brazil (-40%), the United Kingdom (-7%), and Japan (-14%).
In the first eight months of the 2024/25 campaign, it has been exported to a total of 142 countries.
Imports and unit values: The import volume was 159.778 tons, 8% less than the previous season, although still 5% above the average of the last four seasons. The unit value of imports also showed a general decline. Portugal stands out as the main source of imports, accounting for 57% of the total.
Decrease in unit value
The unit value of exports is on a downward trend compared to last season, which was a record campaign.. This price drop is widespread in the main destinations. Despite this, unit values of exports to countries outside the European Union (NON-EU) They remain 28% above the values of destinations within the EU (INTRA-EU).
