Spain registers the highest number of new businesses since 2008: a 10% increase expected by 2024

Over the past year, invested capital for the creation of these new companies amounted to more than 5.925 millones de euros, marking an increase of 24 %. Companies with the largest investment include Southern Ports Holdings Europe SL and Azahar Inversiones Capital SIL SA, each with investments exceeding 100 millones de euros.

Nathalie Gianese, Director of Studies at INFORMA D&B, highlighted: “In 2024, the number of companies created in Spain will rise again by 10% to once again exceed 100.000, as last year, reaching 119.801, the highest number since 2008.”

Madrid leads the list with 27.509 new companies, followed by Catalonia and Andalusia with 23.164 y 20.310, respectively. In December, there were 10.226 new constitutions, surpassing by a 2% the previous month and a notable 24 % Respect to the same month of previously year.

The predominant sectors are Construction and real estate activities, Trade and Business services, which together represent 57 % of the national total. Financial intermediation stands out for accumulating 42 % of the capital invested during these twelve months.

Despite the widespread boom in almost all autonomous communities, Asturias, Cantabria and Extremadura experienced a decline in creations during December.

This upturn in business activity reflects not only a sustained economic recovery but also renewed confidence among Spanish investors and entrepreneurs to continue investing in new business projects throughout the country.
