These three events are considered global showcases for tourism: ITB Berlin, FITUR and World Travel Market, the three most important tourism fairs on the 2004 trade fair calendar.

ITB Berlin is the largest meeting point for the tourism industry. With 10.000 exhibitors from 180 countries, the German trade fair reflects not only the global tourism offering, but also all levels of added value generated by tourism companies themselves.

Therefore, ITB is both a trade fair and a promoter of this important industrial sector. Both the exhibitors, categorized into different segments, and the conference program showcase the full spectrum of products offered by the tourism industry and form the basis for generating new ideas and developing a global perspective.

ITB offers an ideal forum for establishing new contacts with clients and closing deals. Furthermore, in the travel technology segment, through Travel Technology and the Congress program, ITB provides its participants with comprehensive information on the latest developments and applications in the field of e-commerce for tourism. The event strengthens its relationship with trade visitors by utilizing a concise and precise communication tool: the ITB Virtual Platform. This platform is available not only during the trade fair but also well in advance and after its conclusion. ITB also offers a global presence in print and broadcast media, both nationally and internationally. Through presentations, expert forums, and press conferences, it addresses current market developments and showcases new products.

Another essential trade fair for tourism professionals is the International Tourism Fair (FITUR). FITUR 2004 has already begun preparations for its 24th edition, which will take place from January 28th to February 1st of next year at the Feria de Madrid (Madrid Trade Fair). For the first time, the fair will occupy the entire venue, thanks to the anticipated growth of the international area.

Another of the upcoming new features of the next FITUR event is the celebration, within a broad program of conferences, of the 1st World Conference on Communications in Tourism, organized by the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO.

This conference, which will take place on January 29 and 30 at the North Convention Center, will bring together tourism agents with the media to discuss how effective tourism communications can help the growth of one of the world's most important economic sectors.

Meanwhile, the FITUR organization, which welcomes its new commercial director, Lourdes Sierra, is preparing further improvements to its services for visitors and exhibitors. One of the measures to be implemented is sending the FITUR Passport online to professional visitors who register through this channel, thus streamlining the process.

Nor can we forget World Travel Market, which recently held another edition. The event presented the challenges and opportunities offered by the business, meetings, and incentive travel sector, as well as the world's leading destinations and the reasons why companies choose them. In 2002, World Travel Market brought together nearly 19.000 exhibitors who showcased their tourism offerings to 22.107 trade visitors from 184 different countries.

This year, WTM partnered with the British Educational Travel Association to create the Youth Pavilion. More than 20 companies involved in youth and student tourism were represented at the fair. It's worth noting that youth tourism currently accounts for 17% of all international travel.
