Evident, the business of Atos leader in advanced computing announces that it has won a $100 million contract with NCMRWF, in the name of Ministry of Earth Sciences of India, to build two new supercomputers dedicated to weather modeling and climate research for the IITM and the NCMRWF.
These systems, based on BullSequana XH2000 by Eviden, will have a combined power capacity of up to 21,3 petaflops and will rely on Eviden's patented Direct Liquid Cooling technology to cool the system with warm water. The overall solution will leverage artificial intelligence capabilities using NVIDIA DGX A100.
Located in Noida, the NCMRWF supercomputer will have a computing capacity of 8.3 petaflop for weather and climate modeling, to support advanced numerical meteorological research across India. This platform will bring together 2.100 CPU nodes with AMD EPYCTM 7643 processors, 18 GPU nodes using NVIDIA A100 accelerators, Mellanox InfiniBand HDR interconnect technology (200 Gbps) and high-performance memory provided by Micron. The NCMRWF supercomputer will also have 2 PB all-flash and 20 PB of disk-based EXAScaler ES400NVX2 DDN parallel file system storage.
The supercomputer dedicated to Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM, Pune) will provide 13 petaflops of power for atmosphere and climate research. It will integrate 3.000 CPU nodes using AMD EPYCTM 7643 processors and 26 GPU nodes through four NVIDIA A100 accelerators. The system will benefit from Mellanox InfiniBand HDR (200 Gbps) interconnect technology, 3 PB all-flash and 29 PB of EXAScaler ES400NVX2 disk-based DDN storage and high-tech Micron memory.
As part of the contract, data centers at both sites will also be upgraded.
