EXEL will manage Edwards Lifesciences' logistics in Europe

EXEL and Edwards Lifesciences have signed a contract, valued at three million pounds sterling, under which the logistics operator will provide its logistics services for the next three years from several of its distribution centers in Europe. EXEL will manage the warehousing, distribution, order fulfillment, and packaging of Edwards Lifesciences' products at its specialized healthcare logistics center in Nijmegen, Netherlands. In addition, it will support the development of these services in Europe from its platforms in Cherwell (UK), Milan, and Getafe (Madrid).

EXEL has the most advanced technical infrastructure and the right human resources to meet the logistical needs of companies in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, and is therefore in a position to create value in Edwards Lifesciences' supply chain.

Project in Spain

One of the key countries for the development of this project is Spain, both because of the support that the Getafe center will provide and because of the importance of the Spanish market itself. Thus, EXEL's Healthcare Division in Spain will carry out, from its logistics platform in Getafe, which has 6.500 square meters of storage space, the warehousing, order preparation, and distribution of Edwards Lifesciences products throughout the country.

One of the major challenges of this project is the speed and accuracy with which all logistical activities must be managed.

The development of this project demonstrates EXEL's ability to meet the logistical needs of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. In fact, at the beginning of this year, EXEL obtained authorization as a Pharmaceutical Marketing Laboratory from the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products. This is an essential requirement of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs for managing medicines and pharmaceutical products in Spain.

In this way, EXEL becomes one of the first logistics operators active in Spain that can operate as a distributor of pharmaceutical specialties.
