Once again, Spain is leading Expoespaña 2003, the 3rd Exhibition of Spanish Products and Services in Senegal, which will be held from March 24 to 28 at the International Center for Fairs and Congresses of Dakar (CICES).
Organized by the Chambers of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, together with the Government of the Canary Islands and with the collaboration of the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX), its objective is to give this fair a high professional content, presenting to African businesses the large and varied range of products and services that Spain has.
Another factor to consider is that Expoespaña Senegal 2003 will be held at a particularly favorable time, both economically and politically, for this country, which is considered the gateway to a potential market of more than 70 million inhabitants.
Currently, Senegal is the economic hub of the region due, among other factors, to its relatively well-developed transport and telecommunications infrastructure, its diversified industrial base, and the large influx of visitors. These factors give the service sector a significant weight in its GDP, approximately 60%.
In fact, macroeconomic data shows a growing country that has exceeded 5,5% annually in the last two years and a contained inflation rate of 3% in 2001. This situation is favorable to the increased presence of Canary Islands SMEs in both commercial operations and public contracts financed by multilateral organizations.
Furthermore, Senegal is the only West African country connected by a direct Iberia flight between Madrid, Las Palmas, and Dakar, allowing for quick and seamless communication between the two countries and facilitating trade relations.
