Spanish fruit and vegetable exports reach a historic record: 17.521 billion euros in 2024

 

The Spanish fruit and vegetable sector continues its expansion in the international market, registering a new historical maximum in its exports. According to INFORMA DBK Sectoral Observatory, subsidiary of Cesce, foreign sales reached 17.521 billion euros in 2024, 2,8% more than in the previous year. This figure represents an increase of almost 65% compared to 2014, marking ten consecutive years of sustained growth.

 

The study reveals that the value of fruit and vegetable production also experienced an increase of 2,1% in 2024, reaching 25.088 million euros. This growth is attributed to the increase in sales volume, despite a slight decrease in prices, in contrast to the sharp increase in prices recorded in 2023.

 

"The dynamism of the fruit sector The report notes that the growth has been remarkable, with a 6,1% increase in the value of production, reaching €12.168 billion. This growth is supported by a 13,9% increase in production volume.

 

On the other hand, the segment of vegetables experienced a slight decline of 1,4% in production value, reaching 12.920 billion euros. However, in terms of volume, production increased by 4,9%.

 

"Fruit exports have been the driving force behind this growth, increasing by 4,7% in 2024 to reach €9.697 billion," the study highlights. "Vegetable exports, meanwhile, remained virtually stable, with a slight increase of 0,5%, reaching €7.824 billion."

 

The European Union is consolidating its position as the main destination for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, accounting for 83% and 79% of sales abroad, respectively.

 

 

Germany, France and the United Kingdom They remain the main importing countries, together representing nearly 60% of the total value of exports.

 

The sector is characterised by the presence of a large number of small and medium-sized producers, although there is a growing trend towards integration and association in producer and marketing organisations. In the area of ​​wholesale marketing, a greater degree of concentration can be observed.

 

The combined total turnover of the top ten operators in the sector reached 5.250 billion euros in 2023, while the top twenty had a turnover of almost 7.900 billion and the top thirty exceeded 9.750 billion euros. These figures represent an increase of approximately 15% compared to the previous year.
