Extenda-Andalusia Export and Foreign Investment has organized in Malaga a professional day to promote business relationships Andalusia with Egypt and explore the business opportunities that the country offers for Andalusian companies, whose economy will grow at 5% until 2025, according to the IMF.

 

The meeting also included a high level of representation from the Egyptian Government and administration, as the Egyptian ambassador to Spain participated., Youssef Mekkawi; and the secretary general of the Antiquities Service of the Government of Egypt, Mustafa El – Waziri. The vice president of the Institute of Ancient Egyptian Studies Foundation also participated, Maria Luisa Calderon, as well as the general director of the company ONI Foods, Alberto Pérez, to tell his export experience in Egypt.

 

Organized on the occasion of the conference forum “Tutankhamun and Howard Carter: 100 years of History” Promoted by the University of Malaga, the conference has allowed 18 Andalusian companies from different sectors of activity to meet with representatives of the Egyptian Government at the highest level, with the aim of presenting market opportunities and defining ways to improve the Andalusian presence in the country.

 

The Secretary General of Foreign Action highlighted that, currently, Andalusia “has a preferential position in commercial relations with Egypt within the Spanish context, since it is the second community in exports to the country, with 277 million euros sold in 2021 and is the region in which sales of the four largest exporters grew the most, 49%, double that of the first, Catalonia".

 

However, he noted, from the Andalusian Government "we want to deepen these relations, not only because the performance of the economy and the stability of the country offer great potential for the development of Andalusian exports, but also because the influence of Egypt is key in relations with ÁAfrica and the Middle East".

 

"For Andalusia, Egypt, in addition to being a country culturally close due to the historical ties that we maintain from the Andalusian tradition, offers a fundamental commercial attraction, the possibility of diversifying our exports, which is one of the main objectives of the Strategy for the Internationalization of the Andalusian Economy 2021-2027 ".

 

Egypt stands out for being the most populated Arab country, with 103 million inhabitants and for being the third economy in the area. MENA and Africa. It is one of the few countries whose GDP has grown during the Covid-19 crisis, and is expected to continue doing so at rates above 5% in 2023-2025 according to the IMF. It has political stability and a safe climate for business, and also promotes an ambitious plan of megaprojects and large investments in infrastructure and tourism development, linked to the interest that the country's historical and artistic heritage arouses throughout the world.

 

Egypt is the second African market in Andalusia, after Morocco, with 14% of Andalusian sales to the continent.

 

Andalusian companies in the Egypt Forum

A total of 22 Andalusian companies from different sectors of activity and provinces have shown their interest in developing business in Egypt by participating in this Extenda conference in Malaga. The majority of the participants are from this province: Fenixfood, Picaros, Gestomer Ingeniería, María Martín, Aninver, Supercoco Trading, Teatinos University Residence, Malaga Port Authority, Zoomusic Management, Agrolaboratorios Nutricionales and Prodomasa. Companies from Seville have also attended, such as General Elevadores XXI, Mapsa, Cárnicas Sierra Sur, Past View Experience and Cruzoliva; from Jaén, Eucelab, Aceitex and Almazara Saturnino Arias; from Cádiz, Total Logistic, Goldsal; and from the province of Almería, with the Anabel Veloso Company.

 

At the end of the event, the firms were able to participate in a round of questions to the speakers and in a networking space. The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union the PO FEDER of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a community contribution of 80%, or any other European Program capable of co-financing this action.

 

Commercial exchanges for 349 million

In 2021, trade exchanges between Andalusia and Egypt They amounted to 349 million euros, with a favorable balance of 205 million for Andalusia, which exported to this country worth 277 million, while it made purchases for 72 million, imports that double those of the previous year.

Andalusian companies are in Egypt with a mainly industrial offer, in which copper sales stand out, with 225 million exported, 81% of the total and a growth of 68% compared to 2020; followed by chemical products, with 9 million; nuclear reactors and boilers, with 7,6 million (2,7%) and an increase of 23,4%; fuels, with 5,8 million (2,1%); subscriptions, with 4,1 million (1,5%) and an increase of 14,5%; and foundry, iron and steel manufactures, with 3,4 million (1,2%) and almost double sales (+93%).
