Extenda reports on the benefits of Latin American Free Zones for exports

Currently there are more than 600 Free Zones in Latin America

Free zones are a strategic bet in many Latin American countries, as they are an important competitiveness tool, which speeds up productivity and energizes the countries' economies.


 

 

extend, the Andalusian Foreign Promotion Agency has organized a webinar under the name “Internationalization Strategies in Latin America through Free Zones.” It has included presentations by Gustavo González de Vega, President and Mª Camila Moreno, Executive Director of the Association of Free Zones of the Americas (AZFA).

 

The AZFA is a non-profit entity that in its regional context promotes and defends the Z regimeFranks through integrations, research and cooperation with the public and private sectors of all countries of Ibero-America. Currently, it is established as the most important regional union of Free Zones and represents its members in 25 countries on 2 continents, bringing together more than 600 free zones with more than 13.000 companies installed in them. 

 

Free zones are a strategic bet in many countries of Latin America, since they represent an important tool for competitiveness, which speeds up productivity and energizes the economy of countries. In addition, it favors the development of local economies through links between international and national companies. According to studies of the AZFACurrently there are more than 600 Free trade zone en Ibero-America, than 13.200 companies, which generated around 1.700.000 jobs (direct and indirect).

 

On average, the Free Zones contributed 4,6% to the GDP of their countries and the employees of the Free Zones received remuneration almost five times higher than the average minimum wage in the region. For companies, these locations generate a whole series of competitive advantages, which must be considered when choosing their location within their international expansion strategies. The AZFA will present the benefits of being part of the business community and the services they offer to the business community. 

The day was completed with the intervention of Mr. Enrique Rodríguez, General Manager of Rodríguez Lopez Auto, a Spanish company that assembles ambulances in Pacific Free Trade Zone in Cali, Colombia, who exposed his experience and strategy through the free zone. He also participated Ms. Martha Herrera of Phibo Cad Cam, Spanish company established in Bogotá Free Trade Zone (Colombia).
