Extremadura AVANTE, the economic promotion agency of the Extremadura joint, has organized a trade mission to Tokyo with the aim of supporting the prospection of the Japanese market and the promotion of the Extremaduran agri-food sector. The mission, which takes place between March 4 and 8, has the participation of five Extremaduran companies in the food sector.
An individualized work agenda has been prepared for each of the participating companies, arranging work meetings in accordance with their specific commercial objectives. In addition, a support day has been organized to visit establishments related to the Japanese retail sector and prior support has been provided in the services or queries that companies have requested.
Japan is the fourth destination country for Spanish food and beverage exports outside the European Union. In the case of Extremadura, Exports to this market registered a growth of 22,72% in 2023 compared to the previous year, breaking a downward trend in the country as a whole. Canned vegetables led Extremadura's exports to Japan, followed by plastic semi-finished products and pork.
The Japanese market offers important opportunities for Extremaduran companies in the agri-food sector. With a population of 126 million people and high purchasing power, Japan is the third world economy by GDP size and the fourth world importer of goods. Furthermore, the context of economic stability and the deep-rooted culture of appreciation for excellence in food create a constant demand for gourmet products, which represents a great opportunity for Extremaduran companies that offer high-quality and differentiated products.
