La Cajasol Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce of Seville have awarded the Ibero-American Award "Torre del Oro" 2023 a Felipe González, former president of the Spanish government. The award, which is given annually to a top-level individual or entity whose career is closely related to the promotion of political, commercial, economic, and cultural relations among Ibero-American countries, highlights the "extraordinary work carried out in strengthening the relations between Spain and Europe with Latin Americaas well as for his ongoing focus on the affairs of the Region," González said.

The Honor Committee of the award, made up of personalities of the stature of Enrique V. Iglesias, former secretary general of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), and Andrés Pastrana Arango, former president of Colombia, unanimously decided to award the award to González, who was president of the Spanish Government between 1982 and 1996.
González is considered one of the most influential statesmen in the history of Spain and Latin America. During his mandate, Spain consolidated its democracy and became a key player in the region, strengthening relations with Ibero-American countries and promoting economic, political and cultural cooperation.
The award ceremony will take place on September 14 at the headquarters of the Cajasol Foundation of Seville.
