Ferrovial has completed the construction of a satellite control center (CCS) for the company Hisdesat en Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid, with an investment of 10 million euros. The project, which has lasted 13 months, will allow the operation and control of the new government satellites SpainSAT NG, which is scheduled to be launched into orbit in the coming months.
The center, located on the grounds of the Ministry of Defence, has been classified as an infrastructure of general interest due to its relevance to national defense and its capacity to centralize satellite control operations. This facility complies with the strict security standards of the Ministry of Defense, which will allow Spain to participate in missions of international organizations such as the NATO and the UN.
The design, by WSP Spain, prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency, integrating into the natural environment of the the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional ParkSystems such as rainwater recycling and photovoltaic canopies have been implemented, with the aim of obtaining LEED Gold certification. In addition, the building has been built with two sunken levels to minimise the visual impact on the surroundings.
The Ministry of Defense has highlighted the strategic importance of this project, emphasizing that "the control center is essential to guarantee national security and sovereignty."
