South Korea's per capita fish consumption is one of the highest in the world. Fish is used in a variety of popular Korean dishes, such as maeuntang (spicy fish soup), hoe (sashimi), and jeon (fish cakes).
As the world's sixth-largest fish importer, South Korea imports a wide variety of seafood products, including salmon, crab, octopus, and scallops. The most imported products were frozen products, followed by prepared and preserved products, and finally live or fresh products.
The main suppliers are China, Russia, Vietnam, United States and Norway.
