Galicia strengthens trade ties with the U.S. in search of new business opportunities

 

In a recent working meeting, the Minister of Economy and Industry, Maria Jesus Lorenzana, met with an American delegation and representatives of the Association of Metal Industries and Associated Technologies of Galicia (Asime) to explore new avenues of collaboration and business opportunities.

 

At the meeting, Lorenzana highlighted the Resilience of the Galician business sector in the face of challenges in the international context, highlighting its ability to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing economic environment. The meeting served to strengthen trade ties with the U.S. and to identify promising areas of collaboration in sectors such as construction, renewable energy, aerospace and the food industry.

 

 

Lorenzana recalled that the Galician government has just launched a surveillance observatory through the Igape antenna in the North American country to monitor trade policies, advise Galician companies, and offer technical support and strategic information so they can adapt to new scenarios.

 

 

 

In the last year, around a thousand Galician companies, 350 of them regularly, exported products for a value close to 800 million euros, which represents 2,6% of the total. Galician exports.

 

Despite the strong trade relationship, the Xunta de Galicia remains alert to the possibility of the imposition of tariffs by the U.S. In order to minimize the impact of these measures, the Galician government has implemented a proactive strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of its companies. This strategy includes promoting innovation, support for the internationalization and promotion of Galician products in the US market.

 

In addition, the Xunta has launched a surveillance observatory through the antenna of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) in the U.S. This observatory's mission is to comprehensively monitor U.S. trade policies, advise Galician companies, and provide them with strategic information so they can adapt to new economic scenarios.

 

The US delegation, composed of representatives from the embassy and seven states in the country (Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Indiana, and Pennsylvania) expressed great interest in investment opportunities in Galicia. They highlighted the region's potential in strategic sectors and its privileged geographic location, which makes it a gateway to Europe.

 

For their part, representatives of Asime highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Galician and American companiesespecially in the industrial sector. "This meeting has been very productive and has allowed us to identify new areas of collaboration and business opportunities," said a spokesperson for Asime.

 

The Xunta de Galicia is optimistic about the future of trade relations with the United States and is confident that this collaboration will generate mutual benefits for both regions.
