Galicia and South Korea strengthen ties during Ambassador Lim Soosuk's visit

The meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Sports, Diego Calvo, had as its main objective to strengthen the alliances between Galicia and the Asian country.

This meeting takes on special significance in 2025, the year in which 75 years of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Spain are commemorated. A clear example of this connection is the collaboration between Galicia and the Korean province of Jeju, which promotes an exchange between the iconic Camino de Santiago and the Jeju Olle Way.

The influx of Korean pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago has been significant, with 8.174 registered Compostelas in 2024, representing nearly 3% of the total number of international pilgrims. To further strengthen this connection, Galicia's Annual Tourism Promotion Plan includes a familiarization trip for Korean media in October, allowing them to explore various routes on the Camino de Santiago.

Beyond the tourism sector, South Korea, the world's tenth largest economy by GDP and one of the most industrialized and exporting, represents a significant commercial opportunity for Galician companies. Sectors such as the naval, automotive, fishing, canned fish and seafood industries, and textiles could greatly benefit from greater collaboration with this market.
