The Galician company Genesal Energy has set a new milestone by developing and installing two emergency generator sets for a combined cycle power plant in Belgium, a vital infrastructure for the country's energy system. This project, which represented a significant challenge from its conception, required not only guaranteeing the energy supply, but doing so under the stricter European environmental standards in terms of emissions and noise.
The challenge lay in Europe's energy hub, and the answer came from Galician engineering. Genesal Energy designed an emergency power system that will safeguard this critical Belgian infrastructure, where every second without electricity could compromise essential systems such as cooling, fire protection, and lighting.
Genesal Energy's engineering team transformed this technical requirement into an opportunity to demonstrate their innovative capacity. The result is a solution key on hand which integrates two soundproof generator sets in 40-foot containers, with medium-voltage generation and the ability to connect in parallel with the grid. A third 20-foot container functions as a high-tech electrical room, housing the central control and medium-voltage switchgear. The true uniqueness of this solution lies in the meticulous adaptation of each component to comply with stringent environmental regulations.
The system incorporates an advanced exhaust gas aftertreatment system, including DPF filters and innovative SCR technology with urea injection. This ensures a minimum emission level, complying with one of the most stringent environmental regulations in Europe. Furthermore, the design has managed to reduce the noise level to below 80 dB at a distance of one meter, a remarkable achievement in acoustic efficiency.

From fuel-fired heaters with ATEX certification, suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres, to liquid collection trays with leak sensors and auxiliary heating and air conditioning systems, everything is designed to ensure performance even in extreme temperature conditions.
System management is done remotely and efficiently through a Latest generation Master Panel, which allows simultaneous operation of both generators, their individual disconnection, or real-time parameter adjustment. The installation is complemented by medium-voltage switchgear with circuit breakers, grounding resistors, and a common power output system, providing maximum operational flexibility and security.
