GMV secures its first transport contract in Colombia to manage the fleet of the Medellín Metro Line 80

 

 

The agreement, formalized with Siemens Mobility, will allow GMV to implement its advanced SAE-R® Railway Operations Support System for the comprehensive management of the 20 modern double-cabin trams that will operate in the new Medellín Metro Line 80, also known as Ecociudad Line E. This milestone not only marks GMV's entry into the Colombian market, but also represents a strategic collaboration with industry giants such as Siemens and CRRC (China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation).

 

The contract was awarded to GMV following a competitive private bidding process in which Siemens, a key technology provider for the 80th Metro Temporary Union, selected the SAE-R® system for its robustness and efficiency in the operational management and service planning of the new mass transit system. The 80th Metro Temporary Union, responsible for the civil works and train supply, also counts on the participation of Siemens. Chinese manufacturer CRRC, which will be responsible for supplying the tram fleet. Siemens Mobility, for its part, is focusing on the project's power supply and signaling systems.

 

The ambitious Metro 80 project, a 13.25-kilometer, 17-station light rail line, will transform mobility in Medellín By connecting the city from north to south, primarily through the busy Avenida de la 80, a vital axis of the metropolitan west. The inauguration of this modern infrastructure, conceived under the Ecocity concept, is estimated to take place in 2028, marking a turning point in the region's public transportation system.

 

The implementation of GMV's SAE-R® system will play a crucial role in the operational efficiency and safety of the 80th Street Metro. This cutting-edge technology will enable precise, real-time positioning of each of the 20 trams, offering a complete and detailed view of the fleet through intuitive display modes that represent both rolling stock and stations along the line. In addition, the system will incorporate advanced graphical tools and specific functionalities for operating regulations, facilitating informed decision-making and real-time resource optimization. Comprehensive analysis of the recorded data will enable continuous service improvement and a swift response to any eventuality.

 

GMV's SAE-R ® rail traffic management system will be implemented on 20 double-cabin trains of the 80th Metro Line, also known as Ecociudad Line E.

 

 

The contract also includes a sophisticated service planning system, which will allow Medellín Metro operators to efficiently define and edit both the standard routes used in operating plans and the operational plans themselves. This functionality is essential to ensuring punctuality, regularity, and efficiency of the service, adapting to changing demand and optimizing fleet distribution throughout the day.

The project also includes the development of specific software to adapt the SAE-R® solution to the specific requirements of the 80th Street Metro, including advanced regulation functionalities that will enable real-time decision-making in the event of fluctuations in passenger demand or potential emergency situations that may arise during operation.

 

Interoperability is a fundamental aspect of GMV's proposed solution. The SAE-R® system will integrate seamlessly with other critical systems, both onboard the trains and centrally in the operational control center. This integration includes the master clock for time synchronization, passenger information systems onboard the trains and in the stations to keep users informed in real time, the centralized traffic control (CTC) system for overall line supervision and control, and the train control and management system (TCMS) for monitoring vehicle technical parameters.

 

In addition, GMV will facilitate the integration of service information with third-party applications by providing standard interfaces such as SIRI (Service Interface for Real-time Information) and JMS (Java Message Service). This will allow operational information from the 80th Street Metro to be used by other applications and systems, improving the user experience and facilitating trip planning.
