Microsoft clarified that the problem was due to
Ecuador's Internal Revenue Service (SRI), the government's tax collection agency, has suspended the operations of the US computer company Microsoft in the country, an official source told EFE.
Although the official source did not clarify the exact reasons for the measure, Microsoft-Ecuador explained, in a note sent to Efe, that the "temporary closure" of its operations was due to the fact that it did not deliver "on time documentation attached to the payments made to the SRI."
Microsoft clarified that the problem was due to "human error" and that it is prepared to immediately deliver the documentation requested by the SRI.
Furthermore, he noted that the company "respects and complies with local laws and regulations" and that in the last 14 years of operation in Ecuador "it has always been and is up to date with its tax payments, contributing to the treasury on time."
"Microsoft has been designated as a tax withholding agent by the SRI," he said.
He added that, "due to an administrative error of a human nature, Microsoft did not comply with the deadline set by the SRI for the delivery of attached documentation requested" by the agency, which proceeded to temporarily close the company's offices in the country.
According to the statement, Microsoft "will immediately deliver the requested documentation in order to comply with the SRI's order and continue working normally."
The world's leading IT company expressed its intention to "continue contributing its technology to the development of Ecuador, as it has been doing for the past 14 years, promoting digital inclusion and directly and indirectly benefiting more than one million Ecuadorians."
