Alonso Group becomes a shareholder of the European Railway Company

The Spanish holding company Alonso Group has taken a significant step in its expansion and consolidation strategy in the railway sector with the acquisition of a majority stake in the European Railway Company (CEFSA).

CEFSA, based in Madrid, is a company specialized in the rail transport of goods It has a fleet of 29 locomotives and 81 state-of-the-art 40-foot double carriages. The company operates mainly in the Valencia-Madrid-Valencia corridor, where it operates more than 20 weekly trains, in addition to offering connections with other key logistics points and ports of general interest.

The acquisition of CEFSA by Grupo Alonso will allow the latter to integrate rail transport into its Global Logistics Plan, a strategic initiative that seeks to connect the main maritime traffic points of the Iberian Peninsula by rail. This plan, which has the support of the European Commission and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, also has an international scope by connecting with the main European railway lines.

For its part, CEFSA will maintain its management and operational team, led by its current CEO, Gregorio Urdillo. The company will continue to operate normally and its integration into Grupo Alonso is expected to allow it to access new opportunities for growth and expansion.

The acquisition of CEFSA by Grupo Alonso is part of a context of growing demand for rail freight transport in Spain and Europe, driven by factors such as sustainability, efficiency and intermodality.
