Cajamar Group reinforces its long-standing commitment to Spanish fruit and vegetables at Fruit Attraction.

 

Cajamar maintains its tradition of unconditional support fruit and vegetable companies and cooperatives, attending Fruit Attraction once again this year. Since the first edition in 2009, it has been the sole financial entity in accompanying the sector.

 

The Cajamar Group stand at IFEMA has hosted senior managers of the entity, including the president, Eduardo Baamonde; the first vice president, Jose Luis Heredia; the second vice president, Bartholomew Viudez; the general director, Sergio Pérez, and the deputy director general, Jesus Vargas. All of them have maintained numerous meetings with experts and businessmen to analyze the current situation and future challenges of the industry.

 

The importance of the Cajamar area is underlined by the visit of figures such as the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, louis planes; the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi; the president of Cepyme, Angela de Miguel; and the president of the Agro-Food Cooperatives of Spain, Angel Villafranca, among other sector, business and cooperative representatives.

 

An Agenda Focused on Innovation and Sustainability

 

During the fair, a extensive agenda of activities and round tables in the Cajamar space, addressing crucial issues such as the new cap, systems innovation in fruits and vegetables, the Technology at the service of agri-food sustainability, and the management of water resources and the water footprintSpecial attention has been paid to biotechnological, genomic and agronomic innovation, particularly for the cultivation of tomato, protagonist of this edition.

 

Renewal of Strategic Agreements with the Sector

 

The Group's commitment has been materialized in the signing and renewal of collaboration agreements with entities, companies and cooperatives.

In Andalusia, the territorial director of Cajamar in Granada, Sergio Duran, formalized three key agreements:

  • With the cooperative San Isidro de Loja and also to financially support to its nearly 1.400 members, promoting innovation and modernization of production and marketing processes.

  • With Templeoliva, making it easier for its more than 1.300 members to incorporate sustainable agricultural practices and the use of new technologies.

  • With San Sebastián SCA, searching improve performance of the farms of its more than 1.800 members, promote sustainability and foster new business opportunities.

 

In the Valencian Community, the territorial director of Cajamar in Valencia, Jesus Garcia, signed three agreements to promote the innovation, sustainability and competitiveness:

  • With the Association of Plant Variety Operators (ASOVAV), to offer special lines and personalized products to its more than 600 associates.

  • With the Federation of Irrigation Communities of the Valencian Community (FECOREVA), aimed at promoting the infrastructure modernization irrigation.

  • With the Organic Agriculture Committee of the Valencian Community (CAECV), to join forces in the growth of the organic sector through innovation, research and promotion.

 

50 Years of 'Las Palmerillas' and Knowledge Transfer

 

Cajamar has also taken advantage of the framework of Fruit Attraction to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its 'Las Palmerillas' Experimental Station, launched in 1975. This center was the germ of what is today the Cajamar Agri-Food Innovation Ecosystem, which includes the digital platform Earth Platform, the accelerator Cajamar Innova, the Cajamar Agri-Food Training School and its two experimental centers.

 

Thanks to this ecosystem, the entity has promoted initiatives that seek the profitability and sustainability of farms, such as Optimization of irrigation systems, pest control, improvement of energy efficiency, introduction of new horticultural varieties and the application of digital toolsThis demonstrates Cajamar's commitment to the agri-food sector. "It goes far beyond the funding of their initiatives and projects".

 

Other Activities and Recognitions

 

President, Eduardo Baamonde, participated as a speaker at the meeting 'The geopolitical implications of the tomato trade'. In addition, the Cajamar Cooperative Group lent its space to the Interprofessional Organization of Avocado and Mango (OIAM) for the official presentation of its first standard extension, a measure that the president of the OIAM, jose linares, described as a "historic milestone" to strengthen promotion, information and R&D&I in the sector.

 

The entity also sponsored the award in the Agri-Food Sustainability category of the Association of Agri-Food Journalists of Spain (APAE), presented by Ruth Barroso, Business Director of the Cajamar Central Territorial Directorate, to the journalist Víctor Martín.

 

The edition of Fruit Attraction is consolidated as a great event for the sector, which is expected to exceed 120.000 professionals from 150 countries and more than 2.200 exhibiting companies, highlighting Spain's position as main European supplier of fruits and vegetables, with exports that exceeded 20.000 millones de euros last year.
