Andalucía have a great moment in the international markets by reaching 31.371 million euros in exports for the first time in history between January and November, with a growth of 24,5% compared to the same period of the previous year. This is thanks to internationally successful companies such as José Estevez Group, one of the leading producers of sherry wines, brandy and spirits from Andalucía, with brands as notable as Manzanilla La Guita.
With more than 200 years of history, the Cádiz company was formed as the group it is today in the 70s, hand in hand with José Estevez de los Reyes. A trajectory that has important milestones, such as the acquisition, at the end of the 90s, of the Valdespino Wineries, Jerez de la Frontera, a boutique brand, with very limited production and a Premium international image; or the purchase in 2007 of La Guita.
A business strategy, which is completed with the acquisition of new land for production, which has made it “the largest owner of vineyards in Andalusia,” he explains. Ignacio López de Carrizosa, Export Director of the José Estévez Group.

The company, which has been able to incorporate R&D into an eminently traditional and almost artisanal business, to improve the production processes of its main references, has opted for internationalization as a lever for growth in its turnover. “Initially, we were targeting sherry-consuming countries, but following the purchase of these iconic brands, Valdespino or La Guita"We have focused on emerging countries," says López de Carrizosa.
The firm, whose international sales already account for 40% of business volume, exports to countries of America, such as the USA or Canada; from Asia, like Japan; and has been opened to countries of the Eastern Europe and Russia, all destinations, which join the main demand markets for wines from the Jerez region such as England, Germany, Holland or some Scandinavian countries. “The Andalusia Brand has been key for us and, today, it is perfectly connected with an image of quality and reliability that has been crucial for us when introducing our products in the main markets,” he continues.
In this international strategy, Grupo José Estévez has had the support of Extenda-Andalusia Export and Foreign Investment. “Our collaboration with Extenda dates back to 2000 and we have participated in different actions, around a hundred, from reverse missions, with visits from distributors and international buyers, to market prospecting and we have attended the most important fairs in our sector. the hand of Extenda,” says Carrizosa.
The company, which has made a significant effort in the last three years to rejuvenate its most important brands, focuses its future on two important objectives: “introducing our brands in those markets where there is still no presence of Sherry and Manzanilla wines. Sanlucar; as well as diversify products in the shadow of our most emblematic brands to continue growing internationally,” concludes the firm's Export Director.
