Iberdrola and Bayer expand their green alliance with an agreement in Italy

A step towards decarbonization in Italy

Iberdrola, the leading Spanish energy company in renewables, and Bayer, the German pharmaceutical multinational, have signed a green energy purchase agreement (PPA) in Italy for a total of 33 GWh for 11 years, starting in January 2025.

This new agreement consolidates the international alliance between both companies in terms of sustainability, adding to those already existing in Spain and Mexico.

The signing of this PPA will allow the Bayer plant in Garbagnate (Milan) cover 100% of your energy consumption with electricity from renewable sources. The energy supplied will come from the photovoltaic plant of Montefiascone (Latium), Iberdrola's second photovoltaic plant in Italy, with a total installed power of 7 MW.

This project will help avoid the emission of more than 3.200 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 4.000 homes.

The signing of this agreement reaffirms Iberdrola's commitment to the decarbonization of the Italian industry

With the start-up of its second photovoltaic plant in the country and the completion of those already authorized, Iberdrola will reach an operational capacity of 400 MW in Italy in 2025.

In addition to the agreement with Bayer, Iberdrola has signed long-term corporate PPAs this year with other Italian companies, such as the supermarket chain Tosano and the metallurgical company BTicino, consolidating its position as a leader in the PPA market in Europe.

Iberdrola is a world leader in the fight against climate change, with an ambitious investment plan in renewable energy. The company has a strong portfolio of wind, solar and hydroelectric projects around the world, and has become a leader in signing long-term PPAs, with the aim of providing green energy to its customers and contributing to a more sustainable future.
