Located in the municipality of Boldekow, about 180 kilometers north of Berlin, this photovoltaic installation is the result of a strategic collaboration with Vodafone, one of the country's largest mobile phone operators.
The Boldekow solar park, which covers an area equivalent to more than 65 football fields, will generate more than 53 GWh of clean electricity per yearThis energy will be used entirely to feed approximately 3.000 Vodafone mobile phone towers in Germany, under a long-term agreement. It is estimated that over its 30-year lifespan, the plant will prevent the emission of approximately 20.000 tons of CO₂ annually, contributing significantly to the country's decarbonization goals and energy transition.
The launch of this project reinforces Iberdrola's commitment to the German energy market. The company is already positioned as the largest offshore wind energy operator in the German Baltic Sea, with its Wikinger, Baltic Eagle, and Windanker wind farms. The addition of the Boldekow solar farm diversifies its energy portfolio and expands its presence in the onshore renewables sector.
For Vodafone, this partnership is a crucial step on its path to CO₂ neutrality for its own emissions (Scope 1 and 2), a goal the company recently announced. Since 2020, Vodafone has been using renewable energy, and this agreement with Iberdrola allows it to ensure a sustainable and planned long-term electricity supply. The implementation of the Boldekow solar park was supported by partner companies such as Solarpro, Sungrow, P&Q, and 4Energy.
In addition to its environmental impact, the project will also generate tangible benefits for the local community. The solar park is expected to contribute millions of euros in tax revenue for the municipality of Boldekow for decades to come. During the construction phase, priority was given to the participation of local businesses and workers, promoting local economic development.
