Ignacio Juliá, new CEO of Santander Spain

Banco Santander has announced the appointment of Ignacio Julia as the new CEO of Santander Spain, effective from 1 October 2024. Juliá, who until now held the position of CEO of ING for Spain and Portugal, will replace Angel Rivera, who after more than 11 years in the group and after meeting the growth and profitability objectives, will begin a new professional stage in the business field.

Ignacio Juliá has been a key figure in ING's digital transformation since 1999 and, with his incorporation into Santander, he is expected to boost ING's plans for transformation of the bank and the implementation of global platforms.

Ana Botin, president of Banco Santander, highlighted Juliá's arrival: “He is a young professional with extensive experience in the banking model we want to be. I am convinced that his experience and profile will help us accelerate the implementation of global platforms and boost the growth of Santander Spain.”

For his part, Ángel Rivera, who will remain at the bank until the end of 2024 to facilitate the transition, has been key in attracting more than one million customers and consolidating the bank's growth in Spain.
