The new distribution center located in Valls (Tarragona) will be managed by Maersk Logistics and will create more than one hundred local jobs, which could reach up to 200 in later stages.
The Swedish company, a world leader in the sale of furniture and home decor accessories, Ikea, has signed an agreement with Maersk Logistics for the management of its Valls distribution center in Tarragona.
Maersk Logistics will manage the Valls distribution center for IKEA Ibérica SA, contributing its extensive experience in this field to optimize its operations. This new center will handle the distribution of IKEA goods to the company's stores in Spain, Portugal, and France. In its initial phase, it will employ approximately 120 people locally.
The agreement will come into effect in the spring of 2002. Both companies have already signed similar contracts in Sweden and Malaysia, thus strengthening the relationship between them.

Valls Distribution
Last March, Ikea signed the purchase agreement for the land to build its Distribution Center in Valls. It will be IKEA's third large central warehouse in southwest Europe and is scheduled to open in spring 2003.
This well-known Swedish company has 165 stores in 32 different countries. In 2001, IKEA achieved a turnover of €10.400 billion and received a total of 260 million visitors.
In Spain, IKEA has three stores, employing 1.500 people, which received 7,6 million visitors last year. The company plans to open three new stores in Barcelona, Seville, and Lisbon in 2003.
Maersk Logistics
This international company, chosen by IKEA, is a leader in the logistics and distribution market. It provides customized solutions for integrating supply chain management, warehousing and distribution, and sea and air freight.
The company is part of the AP Moller Group, a company that is also involved in oil and gas exploration and production, shipbuilding, aviation, industry, supermarkets and Information Technology services.
