The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has met in the Moncloa complex with the President and CEO of IMEC, Luc Van den Hove, to advance the project to create a semiconductor research center in Malaga. During the meeting, which was also attended by Manuel de la Rocha, Director of the Office of Economic and G-20 Affairs, and Max Mirgoli, IMEC's executive vice president, discussed the public-private collaboration necessary to promote this ambitious project, which will position Spain as a benchmark in the field of microelectronics.
Luc Van den Hove highlighted the "close cooperation between the Spanish and Belgian governments," which fosters pan-European collaboration in the sector of semiconductors, and expressed IMEC's firm commitment to Spain, highlighting the interest in integrating into the national scientific ecosystem. They also addressed the strategic agenda of the European Union in this matter.
The future research centre in Malaga will be the first outside Belgium and will focus on the development of advanced chips, covering areas such as health, photonics and augmented reality.
This project promises key innovations through 300mm chip prototyping processes, strengthening the microelectronics ecosystem through cutting-edge public-private collaboration.
