The steel industry and the Atlantic Corridor join forces to boost rail freight transport in Spain

The Union of Steel Companies (UNESID) has held a meeting with José Antonio Sebastian, Government Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, to discuss the importance of the railway as a means of transport strategic transport for the steel sector.

The steel industry is the main user of rail freight transport in Spain, using this means to transport finished products and supply raw materials.

UNESID highlights the need to advance efficient and sustainable railway infrastructures that contribute to the decarbonisation of industrial activity.

Carola Hermoso, director general of UNESID, said: “We want the steel industry to actively participate in the development of Atlantic Corridor, since the railway is a key element in advancing the competitiveness, viability and sustainability of our activity.”

Meanwhile José Antonio Sebastian He emphasized: “The Atlantic Corridor is moving forward… we are carrying out important work, hand in hand with the business sector… Only together can we increase the amount of goods transported by rail and evolve towards more efficient supply chains.”
