The international agenda has been marked this week by the G7 summit, held in the city of Hiroshima (Japan); the political and economic forum that brings together the most industrialized democracies in the world (Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom).

As expected, the meeting was focused, to a large extent, on the growing tension with China. The G7 harshly criticized theeconomic coercion” exercised by Pekin to interfere in the sovereignty and independence of third countries, as well as the belligerent diplomacy of the Asian country to defend its interests in the disputed waters of the Indo-Pacific.
The different members agreed to respond in a coordinated manner to these challenges, increasing control of the investments and exports of advanced technologies linked to the military field. This approach aligns with the diplomacy advocated by European countries to adopt surgical measures to reduce risks. Regarding the war in Ukraine, the G7 agreed to expand the range of sanctions to Russia, extending restrictions to exports to other strategic sectors for Moscow, like diamonds.
In the military field, United States supported the delivery to kyiv of F-16 fourth-generation fighter jets, a measure that will significantly strengthen Ukrainian military capabilities in the combat arena. Finally, it is worth highlighting the will of the members of the G7 to advance the regulation of generative artificial intelligence. The Heads of State committed to developing proposals before the end of the year to reduce the many risks posed by this technology.
