Jordi Hereu visits Teknia in Cantabria: A key project for the multinational

 

The draft Flowing in Ampuero is one of the most relevant for the company, and has had significant institutional support from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, which has allocated 1,6 million euros between a loan and a grant through PERTE VEC III.

 

Commitment to Innovation and Industrial Growth

 

During his visit, Jordi Hereu highlighted the importance of these types of initiatives: "This project is a clear example of how a company is decisively committed to innovation and leadership in the transition to more sustainable, connected, and efficient mobility." The minister emphasized that electrification is the central axis of the current transformation, and Spain seeks to consolidate its position as a leader in this field, hand in hand with companies like Teknia.

 

For its part, Javier Quesada de LuisTeknia CEO Quesada de Luis emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors: “Public-private partnerships are key to continuing to invest in industrial innovation in Spain, especially in the automotive industry, which has been undergoing a very rapid transformation in recent years. Projects like this allow us to create opportunities that have a direct impact on the region.” Quesada de Luis added that this investment in Ampuero positions the Cantabrian town as a leader in the manufacture of components for new mobility solutions. Globally, Teknia has 23 plants in 13 countries and employs more than 3.500 people, with 9 of its plants located in Spain.

 

A Crucial Component for the Electric Vehicle

 

Minister Hereu had the opportunity to see firsthand the new production facilities, where Teknia manufactures a housing for a power inverter. This component is essential for the electrification of vehicles and is produced using high-pressure die casting (HPDC) technology. This technique is vital for reducing the weight of electric vehicles, contributing to greater efficiency and range. The new project strengthens the Cantabria plant's position as a benchmark center for the manufacture of components for electric vehicles.

 

The investment allocated to this project not only expands the plant's industrial capacity but also projects a 30% increase in revenue. It also represents the largest business acquisition in Teknia's history for a single project, exceeding the €6 million investment to date.

 

Currently, Teknia operates two production plants in Cantabria, one specializing in aluminum injection molding and the other in bar machining. These two facilities employ 300 people and generated a turnover of €41 million in 2024, consolidating their position as drivers of employment and economic growth in the region.
