The 43rd edition of LIBER closes with record numbers and consolidates the internationalization of Spanish-language books.

 

For three professional days, Hall 14.1 of the Trade Fair Centre was transformed into the epicenter of the Spanish-language book industry. 43rd edition of LIBER concluded with a balance extremely positive and widespread satisfaction in the sector due to the commercial results and professional contacts generated.

 

One of the pillars of this success was the new Hall of Rights, which was confirmed as a real business engineThis space brought together 130 editors and literary agents from 24 countries, facilitating more than 400 meetings which culminated in the closure of numerous agreements translation and transfer of rights between labels in Europe and Latin America, in addition to opening contacts with emerging markets.

 

The impulse to Capabilities was reinforced with the assistance of key professionals. The Priority Interest Prescribers Program (in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española, AC/E) convened librarians, acquisitions managers and teachers of 11 countries. Similarly, the Buyers Program (promoted by the FGEE with support from ICEX Spain Export and Investment and AC/E) allowed the presence of more than 300 professionals from 54 countries, underlining the global reach of the fair.

 

The president of the FGEE, Daniel Fernández, highlighted the relevance of the quote: “LIBER 2025 was a success that will allow us to continue advancing the internationalization of Spanish-language books. Over these three days, commercial relationships were established that will materialize in the coming months.”. Fernández also highlighted the successful bet for the new Rights Hall, which will be strengthened in future editions, and the important assistance to professional conferences.

 

For his part, the executive vice president of IFEMA MADRID, Daniel Martinez, pointed out that “This call has offered a complete overview of publishing production and services linked to books, and with this, Madrid has confirmed its position on the international publishing map.".

 

The next edition of LIBER will be held in Barcelona from September 29 to October 1, 2026.

 

Broad Diversity and Professional Debate

 

La exhibition offer of LIBER 2025 reflected the diversity of the Spanish-language publishing sector, with the participation of large, medium-sized, and independent labels, as well as service, technology, and distribution companies. Chile was Guest Country of Honor, participating with a delegation of 17 publishers, agencies and representativesIts programming focused on the commemoration of the 80 years since Gabriela Mistral received the Nobel Prize, whose legacy was one of the thematic axes, along with the contemporary voices of Chilean literature.

 

Recognition of Editorial Work

 

The LIBER Awards 2025 They recognized the work of authors, professionals and institutions. Rosa Montero was awarded as the most outstanding Ibero-American author. The LIBER Tribute fell on Africa Ramirez Olmos, former president of the AEPV, for her commitment. Other awards included Antonio Martínez Asensio (promoting reading in the media), the film Pedro Paramo (best audiovisual adaptation), the Serendipity bookstore (bookseller of the year) and the Jaume Fuster Library (promoting reading in libraries).
