The Board of Directors of the Ibero-American Association of Chambers of Commerce (AICO) gathered in Cascais -Portugal-, has decided to develop a strategic plan to address the African market that will lead the Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP).

More than 100 congressmen from 21 Ibero-American countries and companies have met for two days in Cascais, with the aim of promoting actions so that the Iberian Peninsula becomes a platform for business development between companies from countries of Africa and Latin America.

AICO members will continue to delve deeper into the topics discussed through the different work commissions that make up the Association and will present the results at the General Assembly to be held in Lima in October.

The meeting was chaired by Francisco Herrero and by José Eduardo Carvalho, top representatives of AICO and the Portuguese Industrial Association, and has had the assistance of top-level Portuguese authorities, including the Secretary of State for Internationalization, Bernardo Ivo; the Secretary of State for the Economy, Pedro Cilínio; and the Mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras.

Likewise, he has participated Nicolás Uribe, president of the World Chamber Federation and speakers of recognized prestige who, among other topics, have analyzed the possible solutions to the energy crisis that affects Latin America and the African continent, as well as the importance of seaports in the development of trade.

During the opening, the president of the AIP has stated that “the Portuguese Industrial Association It has extensive experience in Africa that the Ibero-American Chambers of Commerce should take advantage of” and made itself available to the Chambers to lead a project that facilitates rapprochement between African and Ibero-American companies.

Likewise, the President of AICO stated that “Africa is not the future but the present,” adding that "it will support all the initiatives promoted by the AIP with the objective that Ibero-American companies focus on this continent for the development of their investment and marketing projects."
