The conference “Advantages for road freight transport companies of using Short Distance Maritime Transport” was held in Zaragoza.

La Port Authority of Valencia (APV), has participated in the conference “Advantages for road freight transport companies of using Short Sea Maritime Transport” (SSMT), organized by the Spanish Association for the Promotion of TMCD, with the aim of developing this mode of transport in Spain, to talk about the effects achieved and their future development. The session, in which he participated Fatima Zayed, manager APV Logistics Services, has been held in Zaragoza within the framework of the Programme of aid for training in relation to road transport of the Ministerio de Fomento.

 

During your speech “TMCD’s service offering at the Port of Valencia”, Fátima Zayed has presented the main figures for traffic channelled through the three ports managed by the APV (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) and has highlighted the important role of the ports of the APV at the service of foreign trade both of the Valencian Community as well as its hinterland, where regions such as Madrid, Aragon, Extremadura, Murcia, Andalusia or Castile and Leon. The event, aimed at transporters, land transport companies, logistics operators, users and all types of freight transport professionals, was attended by managers of companies such as Gefco 4pl, Noatum Rail Terminal Zaragoza, NRTZ, Capsa, Marcotrans, Ebro Marítima or Uniport Bilbao, among others.

Fatima Zayed He stressed that the Port of Valencia It has 9 regular short-distance services that connect the complex with 22 ports in 13 countries around the world. In addition, Valenciaport It has two regular sea motorway services that connect weekly Valencia with Italian ports. These services have allowed the ro-ro traffic of Valenciaport registered an increase of 4,3%, reaching 8,9 million tonnes. In this sense, at the end of 2016, ro-ro traffic represented 12,5% ​​of the total amount of goods transported.

 

Likewise, of the 329.137 platforms transported, a total of 124.513 were channeled through the so-called highways of the sea, to regions such as Italy, Greece or North AfricaAmong the goods handled, the most important were machinery tools and spare parts with 535.462 tons, automobiles and their parts with 529.668 tons and oils and greases with 425.548 tons.

 

During her presentation, the head of Logistics Services of the APV has emphasized the strategic component of Aragon for Port Authority of Valencia, as demonstrated by its participation in the terminal Noatum Rail Terminal Zaragoza as well as the investments announced in the improvement of railway connectivity between Valencia and the Aragonese community. Specifically, the APV It plans to invest around 100 million euros in improvements to the railway line. Valencia – Zaragoza and in the railway accesses to the port of sagunto. He also recalled that the APV, through the application of new technologies such as the portal ValenciaportPCS, streamlines the operational processes of companies in the port community, improves interoperability for the exchange of transport documents between agents or eliminates access barriers to ports, both in terms of their connection with the foreland and their internal connection with the hinterland, among other advantages.
