The Madrid Chamber of Commerce strengthens the logistics alliance with the Port of Valencia in the service of internationalization

Valenciaport reaffirmed its crucial role in the internationalisation of the Spanish and Mediterranean economy. As one of the main ports in the Mediterranean and the largest in Spain in terms of container traffic, Valenciaport acts as an essential logistics hub for international trade, facilitating the connection of Madrid companies with global markets.

The event, coordinated by Helen Pietersen, International Trade Management Manager of the Madrid Chamber, highlighted several key aspects of the importance of the Port of Valencia for the Madrid economy. Firstly, its role as a gateway for goods distributed to Madrid was highlighted. The port's modern infrastructure allows for the efficient handling of large volumes of cargo, which is crucial for companies operating in the capital.

Furthermore, port activity in Valencia contributes to a constant flow of goods, vital for Madrid companies that depend on the import and export of industrial products, food and technology. This flow not only facilitates trade, but also boosts the economic growth of the region.

Valenciaport has established itself as a key pillar in the internationalisation of Madrid's economy, representing Spain's leading port in terms of container traffic and facilitating more than 1.000 maritime connections to markets in America, Africa and Asia.

The port’s economic impact is significant, generating thousands of indirect jobs in Madrid and in areas related to logistics and transport. As the port continues to develop, investments in infrastructure not only benefit Valencia, but also improve transport connections to the capital, which in turn contributes to greater competitiveness.

This event has been highlighted as a vital space to underline the importance of the port as an economic engine of the Mediterranean and its role in the growth of exports of Madrid companies. Valenciaport, recognised as a leader in container traffic in the Mediterranean and the fourth most important in Europe, offers more than 1.000 maritime connections to destinations in America, Africa and Asia, consolidating itself as an essential route for the internationalisation of companies in the region.

Ángel Asensio, president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the port's importance to the regional economy: "The presentation of the Port of Valencia at the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry is crucial. It is Spain's leading container port, and Madrid is its largest customer. The internationalization of our companies and competitiveness in importing goods are essential. There is enormous potential between Valencia and Madrid for goods from Latin America and Africa, and we are working together to improve this connection."

Asensio also highlighted recent advances in the port’s infrastructure, including the new North Terminal and the Logistics Activities Zone, as well as the creation of the first railway highway between Valencia and Madrid. “These initiatives will strengthen the logistics competitiveness of both regions,” said Asensio. In addition, it was revealed that nearly 40% of freight traffic in the Port of Valencia comes from the Community of Madrid, which highlights the importance of this alliance. This link has allowed “Madrid companies to experience a 40% growth in their exports in the last decade,” contributing to the economic leadership of the region and consolidating Madrid as a “global logistics hub.”

For her part, Mar Chao, president of Valenciaport, highlighted the opportunities offered by the port: “We were recently at the Madrid Chamber of Commerce presenting the advantages of the port. We are not just about numbers; we are a service company for the business community. We are here to help and we hope you will visit us in Valencia.”

Finally, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the internationalisation and modernisation of companies in the capital, offering advice, training and tools through its International Trade Management department. The event concluded with B2B meetings between Valenciaport experts and Madrid businessmen, promoting closer collaboration in international trade management.
