Global risks in the post-Covid era

The Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Cesce have organized a day under the title; Uncertainty in the international context: Geopolitical, economic and climatic risks.


 

 

Last week the second day held within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed by Cesce and Madrid Chamber of Commerce which seeks to join forces in the representation, promotion and defense of the interests of Community companies and establish synergies and ties of collaboration between both entities.

 

This second session, titled “Uncertainty in the International Context: Geopolitical, economic, energy and climate risks”, had the director of Country Risk and Debt Management of Cesce, Ricardo Santamaría Burgos and with Cristina Fernandez de la Rosa, analyst of the Large Clients Unit of the Directorate of Operations on behalf of the State of the insurer, as speakers. In addition, the Sales Director of The 42 Degrees Company also participated during the day, Ignacio Lanao García – April, who contributed his experience as a Cesce client in his process of going abroad.

For his part, Ricardo Santamaría Burgos, shared with the attendees a detailed examination of the development of the current crisis situation, making special mention of two economic shocks that have generated galloping inflation with heterogeneous impact in the different countries of the world: the war of Ukraine and mass lockdowns in China as a result of the pandemic. In reference to the channels of contagion derived from the war conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Santamaría pointed out four: raw materials and energy channel, commercial and value chain channel, financial channel and trust channel.

 

Likewise, the director of Country Risk and Debt Management at Cesce made reference to the ddifferences between the US and the Eurozone, pointed out that the monetary policy of both territories is at a crossroads caused by the dramatic escalation of the interest rates of the central banks and by a global debt at historical highs that most directly impacts developing countries, the most vulnerable. to this situation. Given this situation, Santamaría pointed out the short-term risks: inflation and pace of adjustment of monetary policy, energy crisis in Europe, evolution of the war in Ukraine, slowdown in China, risk of defaults and social instability, and geopolitics as Background curtain.

 

In his turn to speak Cristina Fernandez de la Rosa presented the insurer as a strategic partner for companies to face the risks described by Ricardo Santamaría in his presentation. Specifically, he explained two recently created Cesce products: the Green Investment and Export Policies and the Credit Risk Coverage Program for Electrointensive Consumers.

 

Fernández pointed out that the Green Policies aim to support Spanish companies that participate in projects that contribute to preserving the planet, while the Credit Coverage Program for Electrointensive Consumers They constitute a guarantee mechanism that facilitates the execution of long-term contracts for the purchase and sale of electrical energy and that allow price stability for electro-intensive consumers.
