La Hispanic Portuguese Chamber of Commerce held the 3 edition of the Vasco da Gama Awards, a key event to recognize the strategic and economic impact of companies operating in both countries. The ceremony, attended by prominent figures from the business and institutional spheres, reaffirms the Chamber's commitment to the growth of the business community and the consolidation of bilateral relations between Spain and Portugal.
Mr. António Calçada, President of the Hispanic Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of collaboration in the current global context: “At such a critical time as the one we are experiencing with the current global geopolitical and geostrategic context, it is a source of satisfaction and pride to see how the ecosystem of Iberian companies grows and strengthens in both markets every year.”. Calçada added that, despite the challenges, “Spain and Portugal If they walk together, they have the enormous opportunity to join forces to develop and consolidate a geostrategic, economic and social position of enormous importance for our countries and for Europe.".
In turn, the His Excellency, Ambassador of Portugal to Spain, Mr. José Augusto Duarte, thanked the Chamber for its work, highlighting that the economic relationship between both countries “Not only has it been strengthened, but it has become an engine of shared growth”. He urged Minister D. Carlos Cuerpo to “To build a career side by side, combining strategy and perseverance so that Portugal and Spain have a shared vision and future".
The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise of the Government of Spain, Mr. Carlos Cuerpo, highlighted the integration between both countries, describing them as “More than strategic partners, we are systemic partners, so we have to continue fostering these ties."He emphasized the excellent economic, financial, and institutional relations between Spain and Portugal.
In this edition, the award for the Portuguese business excellence was awarded to Sonae Sierra, in recognition of its commitment to the development of sustainable real estate projects and its consolidated presence in Spain over the last decade. The award to the Spanish business excellence fell on Plenergy, for its determined expansion in the service station sector in Portugal.
Finally, the João Flores honorary award, which distinguishes personalities for their contribution to bilateral relations, was awarded to Mr. Pedro Moreira, SCA partner, for his two decades of valuable contributions to the Chamber of Commerce and to the strengthening of Spanish-Portuguese ties.
The ceremony is part of the Chamber's strategy to promote Iberian cooperation as a fundamental pillar of business development in the region. The event was supported by Abanca, ACTIOM, Belzuz, BDO, CE Consulting, Fidelidade, Prosegur Security, Hispasat and Vieira de Almeida, and the trophies were contributed by Vista Alegre.
