The European Commission has formally asked Member States to approve the negotiating mandates for a new generation of trade agreements, which Brussels wants to begin negotiating in 2007, with India, South Korea, and the Southeast Asian countries belonging to ASEAN. According to the Commission, the three new agreements relaunch multilateral negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO), something to which the EU committed. Furthermore, the agreements are integrated into the EC's new trade strategy, unveiled last October.
