The construction of the City of Arts and Sciences has made it possible to create a place for meeting, studying, debating and enjoying scientific knowledge and new artistic expressions, but it also involves a project with considerable economic consequences.
The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia stands as one of the most ambitious cultural projects internationally, considered by many to be the best science museum in the world. In just one year, it has already achieved comparable productions to the Musée de la Villette in Paris, the Science Museum in London, and the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Without a doubt, the CACSA has been a driving force for growth in the city of Valencia, transforming it into a much more modern, ambitious, humanist, and environmentally conscious city, deeply integrated with its natural surroundings; in short, a forum for the convergence of social and cultural life with a cutting-edge approach.
For the tourism industry, it has also been an essential boost, especially given the importance of this sector in the Valencian Community. CACSA expands the existing cultural and leisure offerings and has become Spain's most emblematic project due to the socio-economic and labor development it is generating. In this regard, José Luis Olivas, First Vice President of the Valencian Government, stated at the opening of the conference "The City of Arts and Sciences as an Engine of Growth for the City of Valencia," held at the Valencian Business Confederation, that "from a tourism perspective, it has been estimated that visitor spending at the City of Arts and Sciences will amount to 21.000 billion pesetas per year, and studies have also estimated that for every peseta invested in the City of Arts and Sciences, an additional peseta of economic activity is generated in the Valencian Community."
Since we've mentioned the employment sector, it's worth noting that the City of Arts and Sciences has created and will continue to create numerous jobs. In addition to the more than 12.000 jobs already created, we must add the more than 6.000 that are expected to arise as a result of the opening of the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, L'Hemisfèric, and L'Oceanogràfic.
According to data released by the Executive, the results obtained so far, after the commissioning of the City of Arts and Sciences, are much better than expected, but the future prospects seem even more encouraging.
