La International Relations Commission has analyzed the New Agenda for the relationships between EU and Latin America and the Caribbean, in a meeting held on July 6.
In the first part of the session, the president of the Commission, Marta White, presented the recent and future activities of CEOE International, priority issues of trade policy and developments in the field of cooperation.
Later, he intervened Javier Niño Pérez, deputy director general for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS) with a summary of the current situation of the political and economic relations of the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean given the altered international context we are going through.
The speaker emphasized the good will and effort that the UE to finalize the various trade agreements with the region that remain to be ratified. Furthermore, during his speech, Javier Niño updated attendees on the EU-CELAC political summit which will be held on July 17 and 18 in Brussels and will be attended by senior political officials from both regions and is expected to serve as a milestone to give new impetus to the bi-regional association.
Finally, attendees had the opportunity to raise their questions about the news discussed during the session to the speaker and participate in a debate about the perspectives and next steps that can be taken to strengthen relations between the two regions.
