The evolution of international logistics is the focus of the debate of the Interterritorial Internationalization Council

The Government of Extremadura holds the presidency of the Council during this semester

The CEO of ICEX Spain Export and Investment, María Peña, has valued the work of the CII as a materialization of internationalization as a State policy.

El Government of Extremadura has presided, in the Mérida Congress Palace, Interterritorial Internationalization Council (CII), a forum for debate and exchange of information in which representatives of autonomous communities participate, CEOE, Chamber of Commerce of Spain, Secretary of State for Commerce and ICEX with the aim of strengthening collaboration in the activity of promoting the internationalization of Spanish companies and attracting investments to our country.

 

Rafael Spain, Minister of Economy, Science and Digital Agenda of the Government of Extremadura, together with the CEO of ICEX Spain Exportation and Investments, Maria Pena, have been in charge of opening the meeting of the IIC.

 

In her speech, the CEO highlighted the work of the CII as materialization of internationalization as state policy. “The CII provides us with a unique dialogue framework to share good practices and identify areas of collaboration that allow us to strengthen the integration of our economy in the international markets, the competitiveness of our companies abroad and our ability to attract quality FDI, and it also does so in collaboration with the private sector, since the CEOE and the Chamber of Spain", has said.  

 

The acting Minister of Economy, Science and Digital Agenda, Rafael España, has pointed out that internationalization is revealed as a fundamental tool for the autonomous communities in general and of course, for Estremadura in particular. And for this reason, this CII “allows us to explore and reflect on the different vectors that allow us to reflect the level of internationalization of a territory, more in a global context like the one we find ourselves in without losing sight of the service sector as a relevant economic activity.”

 

The central axis of the debate has been international logistics, the major trends and movements in this sector and, in particular, how it is being transformed, and what repercussions the current trend towards nearshoring may have to produce closer and thus reduce costs.

 

 

One of the novelties of this CII has been that for the first time The autonomous cities have been invited to participate as listeners. The objective is that little by little they will be incorporated into the meetings of the next councils.

 

In the framework of the Foreign Promotion Committee (CPE) the project has been presented ICEX Vives dedicated to promoting the internationalization of young talent, and the commercial priorities of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU. There has also been debate about the Trade Promotion Europe (TPE), the voice of Europe in foreign trade, and the members of the Committee have shared experiences on the participation of the different trade promotion organizations in the 2nd operational program of ERDF funds 2021-27.

 

The Committee for the Attraction of Foreign Investments (CAI) also took place, where it was revealed that despite the complex geopolitical circumstances that the European continent is going through, Spain registered a notable growth in foreign investment received in 2022. Last year, our country received a volume of IED in capital participations equivalent to 34.178 million euros, which represents a growth of 14% compared to the figure recorded in 2021 and represents the second highest figure in the entire historical series.

 

FDI statistics are not only being good quantitatively, but also from a qualitative perspective. In accordance with FDI Markets, database of Financial Times Group, Spain received 860 greenfield projects from foreign capital in 2022, which has made us the sixth country in the world that has received the most projects of this type globally. Spain is also registering very promising results in the most advanced and productive forms of foreign investment.

 

These good results highlight the attractiveness of Spain as a destination for foreign investments and demonstrate the good results that the joint and coordinated work of all the entities is achieving. Public Administrations with skills in the matter, one of whose best expressions is, precisely, the Interterritorial Internationalization Council.   

 

The meeting closed by highlighting the challenge of the autonomous communities to contribute to transform these challenges into opportunities and collaborate to multiply the results in the process towards a more competitive, more sustainable and internationalized economy.

 

The next meeting of the CII will be held next semester under the presidency of the Government of the Region of Murcia.
