The Generalitat and the Government of the Italian region Emilia-Romagna join together in defense of the ceramic industry in Europe

They will request a meeting with the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs

They agree on the need to propose to the European Commission an increase in aid given the "suffocating" situation this sector is going through, due to the increase in energy costs aggravated by the war in Ukraine.

The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the president of the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, have held a meeting in which they have agreed on a common front in defense of the interests of the ceramic industry.

 

During the meeting, both leaders agreed on the need to present to the European Commission an increase in aid in response to the "suffocating" situation this sector is experiencing, due to the increase in energy costs exacerbated by the war in Ukraine

 

For this reason, they agreed to request a meeting with the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, to convey this joint claim of the two most important regions in Europe in ceramic production.

 

The president also announced that he will hold a meeting with representatives of the Spanish association of countertop manufacturers Ascer, during his visit to the international ceramic counter and bathroom furniture fair cersaie, which is being held in Bolonia, to convey their support and align positions with the employers, in order to “act in the most powerful way possible.”

 

Regarding the measures that the Generalitat will implement in defense of the sector, the head of the Consell has indicated that the Government's aid to the gas-intensive sector will be complemented within the framework that allows the European UnionIn addition to having requested a new Perte for the decarbonization of what he has described as a "fundamental industrial fabric".

 

Moreover, Ximo Puig He also highlighted the need to address the "speculative" situation in the CO₂ market, which affects the results of the ceramic industry, with a consequent loss of competitiveness.

 

It is worth remembering that approximately 94% of national ceramic production originates in the province of Castellón, where 80% of the companies in the sector are located, representing 14,4% of the industrial GDP of the CV and They are characterized by their leading position in technology, quality, prestige and design. 

 

Collaboration agreement 

 

For his part, the president has announced that in the coming months both regions will sign a collaboration protocol to launch joint projects in various European programs, consolidate tourism links and establish exchanges in the field of Vocational Training, among others.

 

In this way, it is about consolidating the relationship between the Valencian Community and the Emilia-Romagna region, which originated three decades ago with the signing of a protocol of intentions between both autonomous governments.
